East Cheshire chooses CliniSys for chemo prescribing

East Cheshire NHS Trust has awarded a chemotherapy prescribing solution contract to CliniSys Oncology.

CliniSys will deploy its ChemoCare solution in the trust later this year where it will provide an e-prescribing solution for adult, solid tumour and haematological oncology at the Macclesfield District General Hospital site.

Once implemented, CliniSys says the system will help the trust improve patient safety by standardising prescribing and enhancing service efficiency.

Improved financial accountability and increase the quality and quantity of information required for audit and clinical governance are also offered by the solution.

Justine Scanlan, chief pharmacist at the trust, said: “We have selected the CliniSys system because it meets all of our requirements with the added advantage of being an established ‘off the shelf’ solution with a proven track record.”

CliniSys won the contract following a five month procurement process from OJEU advert to project kick-off with the final selection of ChemoCare being made because of the solution’s ability to meet both the National OBS for chemotherapy prescribing and the specific local needs of the trust.

ChemoCare implements agreed protocols for prescribing leading to a reduction in inequalities of care and more consistent standards of care. “Start up” time is minimised through the provision of over 200 UK and international chemotherapy protocols.
