Former Accenture MD appointed as NHS Resolution’s first CIO

A not-for-profit part of the NHS which provides expertise to the health service to help resolve disputes fairly has appointed its first CIO.

Niamh McKenna joins NHS Resolution from Accenture where she was managing director for health in the UK. She will start in her new role in August.

Her appointment at NHS Resolution comes at a time when the organisation, which is an armā€™s-length body of the Department of Health and Social Care, embarks on a strategy which aims to transform the way in which data is used.

McKenna said: ā€œI am absolutely delighted to be joining NHS Resolution at this pivotal time.

ā€œThe work they do is so important to the health system, and it is a privilege to be supporting their mission of resolving concerns and sharing learning.

ā€œI am looking forward to joining the team and helping them on their transformation journey.ā€

NHS Resolution, which was formerly known as The NHS Litigation Authority, is also planning on carrying out a programme which will enhance the organisationā€™s technology capability.

Helen Vernon, chief executive at NHS Resolution, added: “We are delighted to welcome Niamh to the NHS Resolution team where she will lead an exciting programme of work to use technology to release the power of the data we hold.

ā€œNiamhā€™s extensive experience in driving innovative yet practical technology change will help us to make a difference in the work that we do to deliver improvements to NHS patients and those who care for them.Ā  We are looking forward to working with her as we embark on this important next phase ofĀ our strategy.ā€
